AN AWARD WINNING FIRM
Vera Planning & Design Services (VPDS) was invited to collaborate with Kendall Planning + Design (KPD), the Institute for Maximum Human Potential (IMHP), and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) to provide pro bono services for the design of a plaza under the People St Program, specifically Leimert Park Village Plaza on 43rd Pl between Degnan Blvd and Leimert Blvd in Leimert Park. This highly regarded “Tactical Urbanism” project grew out of extensive public outreach and close collaboration with local residents, including performers, artists, community leaders and business owners.
On June 25, 2015, VPDS was honored to be part of the team of collaborators who won an American Planning Association-LA Chapter Best Practices Award of Excellence for the People St Program. Congratulations to LADOT, IMHP, and KPD on a great strategy that entailed investing in “the strengths of the Village’s cultural assets, ensur[ing] that future economic development is guided by the area’s rich artistic heritage, harvest[ing] a network of local creative industry human capital, and provid[ing] employable, culturally-centered skill development for the next generation of artists, technicians, and entrepreneurs,” according to the Village’s application for the L.A. 2050 challenge.
